A Collaborative Unleashing of
God's Love Throughout Central VA
For much of history, the Church has been a trusted and valued presence in public life. Churches worked together to shape communities by starting schools, building hospitals, standing for justice, and caring for those in need. But over time, in many places, that presence has faded and the Church’s voice has grown quiet.
Now more than ever, our world needs the voice of the Church. We are living in a time marked by deep division, rising anxiety, and growing spiritual hunger. The message of the Church is not only relevant, it is essential. But before it can be heard, the Church must first choose to be present.
This is where Mission CVA comes in...
Mission CVA creates opportunities for local churches to unite around a shared mission to reengage the public square with the heart and mission of Jesus. This is not about winning arguments or drawing attention to buildings or programs. It is about faithfully responding to the call of Jesus to go. To go where people gather. To listen with compassion. To think with clarity. To serve with humility. To speak truth in love.
The public square is not just political. It is deeply relational. By choosing calling over comfort, presence over promotion, and faithfulness over fear, we are showing up in schools, government offices, festivals, community events and community events, with grace, truth, and compassion. This is not a time to step back. It is a time to step up and rightly position the body of Christ as a faithful and compassionate presence in the community.

For much of history, the Church’s voice and presence were welcomed and valued in the heart of public life. Together, churches helped shape the fabric of communities by starting schools, building hospitals, standing for justice, and responding to real needs with hope and compassion. But over time, in many public spaces, that voice has gone quiet or disappeared altogether.
And yet today, the need for the Church’s voice has never been greater. We are living in a time of deep division, rising anxiety, and growing spiritual hunger. The life giving voice of the Church is not only relevant. It is essential. But before we can be heard, we must choose to be present.

Into Action
In May 2024, with support from our ministry partner Bridging RVA, we tested the Mission CVA concept. Four middle district churches in Powhatan County collaborated on a teacher appreciation event, welcoming anyone who wanted to honor the faculty and staff of Powhatan County Public Schools. Through this effort, we met new people and discovered a shared purpose in the community.
