Youth Director - Amelia Baptist Church
Part Time Position

PRIMARY PURPOSE:   Exemplifies a lifestyle that conforms to Biblical worldviews and Christian values.  Be involved in the lives of middle school and high school students, establishing relationships with them and providing opportunities to shepherd and help them develop their own personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND TASKS:

  • Be active in the life of the church with the commitment to the vision and values of Amelia Baptist Church and the community of Amelia.

  • Build the youth group by developing relationships with teens (age 11-19 yrs old).

  • Plan and develop fun and safe activities for teens beyond the weekly activities.

  • Lead Wednesday night youth program, assist with the Sunday morning Sunday School class and a monthly weekend youth activity.

  • Participate and work with youth during the annual weekly church mission trip to South Hampton Roads Mission Project (SHRMP).

  • Serve in Vacation Bible School (VBS) giving attention to youth workers and a possible class for youth.

  • Develop leaders/servants within the youth group by example and discipleship.

  • Attend appropriate retreats.

  • Must have good interactional skills and establish relationships with parents/guardians of the youth, as appropriate.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Individuals must possess the knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential function of the job.

  • Knowledge and personal understanding of the Bible and how to lead others to a relationship with Christ.

  • Ability to review, understand and apply concepts presented in the Bible and Bible reference materials as approved by Amelia Baptist Church leaders in a fun, applicable and relevant way to young people.

  • Ability to work with and cooperate with the pastor, directors, deacons and other leaders of Amelia Baptist Church.

  • Good organizational and administrative skills.

  • Committed to the ongoing spiritual and emotional development of young people.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally, in writing and electronically.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

  • Evangelical background and in agreement with Amelia Baptist Church’s doctrinal statement.

  • Education- A college degree or working towards a degree is preferred. A high school diploma with training or experience in youth ministries will be considered.

  • Demonstrate personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, parents, church members and community members.

  • Prior youth ministry experience a plus.

References and Background Check required.

Additional Notes for Youth Director position
Beginning salary proposed $15.00/hr with an average time of 15-20 hours per week.
A time sheet will be provided to track hours worked and notation of time spent on preparation, meetings, teaching, mentoring, sports ministry attendance, etc.

Suggested age of 20+ years old in this role.

Requirement for this position is to attend and participate in SHRMP and VSB weeks.
Candidate to be paid a stipend of $600.00 for those two weeks.

Temporary position with a 90-day probation period with a possibility for year-round part-time employment.  At the 90-day timeframe, meet to review goals and accomplishments as well as re-evaluation of position with pastor and/or designee.

Responsible for the safety and cleanliness of the youth area after each meeting and/or event.
 
Work on developing a permission slip/health information form completed and signed by parent/guardian for teens, especially when going to out of town events.
 
All information is to be kept confidential.

Must be punctual and dependable.

Tax Filing Note
IRS tax regulations will be followed, for tax purposes and the church will provide a W-2 at the end of the year as required by law.

Reimbursement
Candidate once hired, will be reimbursed for mileage according to IRS guidelines (0.65/mile) with a limit of  $600/year.  Mileage will be verified using Google maps or similar program.

Miscellaneous expenses incurred for youth ministry programs will be covered if approved in advance by the finance committee and/or pastor.
